If the Forerunner 70 left you wondering, “Where’s my power meter and smart trainer support? Where’s my open-water swimming mode? Where are my ABC sensors? And why can’t I pay with my watch?”, then the Forerunner 170 is the answer to those questions. With the addition of a few extra sensors and modes, the 170 takes the already impressive Forerunner 70 to the next level. Borrowing the brilliant AMOLED screen from the vívoactive 6, the 170 makes your training look great. The interface comes from the Fenix 8, so the 170 receives almost all of the same updates as a watch 2x its price. You get the daily suggested workout feature from the Forerunner 970, and a new quick workout mode that creates a few workout options for you based on activity, intensity, and time. Garmin’s Morning Report and Evening Report are here to help you plan your today and your tomorrow. Garmin Share sends routes to other Garmin users—great for sharing with that run buddy who always forgets where you’re going. And there are oh-so-many sport modes, so unless you have a very niche hobby, there is a training mode for you.
