Shimano's ICE technology puts an aluminum core between 2 layers of stainless steel. Aluminum’s high heat dissipation reduces the rotor’s surface temperature by about 100°C. (Pairing the rotor with Ice-Tech brake pads can reduce their surface temperature by another 50 degrees.) Cooler rotors and pads make for higher stopping power and vastly reduced fading.
