Water filters and purifiers remove pathogens from fresh water, but they don’t make sea water drinkable. This compact, hand-powered unit does, using the same reverse osmosis membrane as shipboard desalinators. The 4.5 litre/hour output accommodates up to 20 people in survival situations where continuous pumping is possible, or smaller groups on the move for sea kayaking expeditions, etc.
- Energy Recovery System recirculates pressurized reject water to the back side of the piston, assisting the next stroke and reducing the effort needed to operate
- Salt rejection is 98.4% on average (95.3% minimum)
- Optimal pumping rate is 30 strokes/minute
- Flow is 4.5 litres/hour (+/- 15%)
- Dimensions are 14 x 56 x 9cm
