With no pumps to break or valves to jam, the alcohol burner is almost immune to mechanical failure.
The two-part base / windshield provides a wide, steady platform, ensures reliable operation in wind, maximizes fuel efficiency, and holds pots or pans securely in place over the burner. For use with oversized cookware, the pot supports pivot out over the top. All components stow conveniently and compactly into the stove windshield, and are held closed with a strap.
Boiling the supper water takes a couple of minutes longer than on one of those blowtorch stoves, but what’s your hurry? (If you’re really the Type-A sort, put the water on first and set up your tent while it’s brewing.) With no jet-like roar to deafen you, you can carry on a conversation without bellowing, or listen to gurgling brooks, birdsong, or simply silence. Plus, the Trangia simmers better than the pocket flamethrowers – lovely for pancakes, slow soups or eggs over easy.
