This pedestal is made from mini-cell foam, much lighter than an old-style roto-moulded saddle. It allows you to lean further forward for micro surfing, and enables you to get more reach and weight into your strokes.
This type of saddle is typically safer. During a roll, you have a welcome pocket of air in front while setting up. In a wrap situation, a pedestal gives more room to move unimpeded to the front or back. It also allows you to bring your front air bag back further, while leaving you room to bail.
Weight placement is critical in today's shorter whitewater canoes – an inch too far forward or back throws the whole boat's performance off. To allow for this, this pedestal is built long. If it is not installed in quite the right position, it can be carved out at the back, while still providing room for the thwart.
